Community Cadet Scheme

Cadet training with a flame trough, 1997

Way back in 1995 our brigade began a "Community Cadet" scheme to bring young local people into the brigade. We had several objectives... to expose them to the disciplines of a service like ours, to teach them some useful practical skills and, ultimately, to recruit some of them.

The scheme has been a great success for us, and we have run at least one cadet programme each year since. Our recruitment problems have gone, our local profile has improved, and we have been able to project sophisticated fire safety skills out into the community.

Here is our current programme, which we hope might be useful to other brigades. If you have the resources to run a scheme like this we'd wholeheartedly recommend it.
